The VEET Program has come about as the result of consultation between major energy industry partners and the Baw Baw Latrobe Local Learning and Employment Network.
The Victorian Energy Industry recognised that a substantial proportion of its workers were approaching retirement age. It was predicted that the trend of this rapidly ageing workforce, coupled with issues related to education, training and recruitment would result in crippling skill shortages in the near future.
The VEET program forges links between industry and educational providers, giving young people a broad understanding of the energy industry. This is achieved by combining a range of industry information and development days giving young people a direct link into employment and opportunities for further post secondary education through accredited skills training in Engineering and Electro-technology.
The VEET project introduces students to a wide range of occupations in the energy industry in Victoria. Participants receive broad based knowledge with work placements arranged within the energy industry.
VEET participants will:
Attend a Welcome Ceremony to induct students, parents and schools to the program
Complete the Construction Induction Card training
Visit Federation Training’s Energy Training Centre in Chadstone to meet with apprentices and learn about training within the industry
Visit a AusNet Services or Industry site to learn about the variety of occupations and different components of the energy industry
Complete a three day work placement within the energy industry
Attend a Celebration Evening
Benefits of Participating:
Completing a practical work placement within the energy industry will give you a greater insight into various occupations.
Visiting different training environments will show you what to expect if you become an apprentice or trainee
Learning about the different occupations within the energy industry, gaining practical work experience and expanding your networks will help you to make informed decisions about your future and give you an edge in the application process.
Benefits for the Industry:
The program will provide an excellent recruiting ground for new entrants who have a demonstrated interest in starting a career in the Energy Industry; it will also provide an essential element within company strategies related to securing their future skills base.
This program is run as a partnership between Gippsland Schools, Registered Training Organisations, AusNet Services and the Gippsland Local Learning and Employment Networks. It is facilitated by the Gippsland Local Learning and Employment Networks.
